INDIE BAND THE CLIENTELE JOINS WISE MUSIC GROUP The Clientele, the British indie band known for their ethereal sound and literary songwriting, have signed with Wise Music Group, marking an exciting new chapter in their four-decade career. Founded in London in 1991, The Clientele have carved out a unique space in the indie landscape with eight albums, five EPs, and a dedicated global following.Wise Music Group, a global music publishing powerhouse with offices spanning London, New York, Tokyo, and beyond, will now represent The Clientele’s catalogue worldwide through its Sparta Florida Music Group imprint. This includes their most recent critically acclaimed album I Am Not There Anymore (2023), as well as forthcoming releases.A statement from Marcus Wise, CEO of Wise Music Group, reveals his enthusiasm: “Today might just be my best day in the office so far, because I get to announce our signing of The Clientele! I’ve been a long-time fan of this London band since the late nineties. Their pastoral and elegant songs are considered cult classics already, and these are serious musicians who are writing timeless music.”The band’s lineup features lead singer and guitarist Alasdair MacLean, drummer Mark Keen, and bassist James Hornsey. Known for their shimmering, fragile soundscapes, The Clientele’s music has often been described as “ethereal” and “hazy.” MacLean himself summarizes the band’s signature feeling: “It’s that feeling of not being there. What’s really been in all the records is a sense of not actually inhabiting the moment that your body is in.”Beyond the U.K., The Clientele have toured extensively in the United States, where they have found a strong audience. Their recordings are released through Merge Records, a respected independent label based in North Carolina.The band has some notable plans ahead.
