Could this Technics SL-1200 MK2 made of LEGO become an official product?A designer has created a Technics SL-1200 MK2 made of LEGO bricks, in the hopes it may be turned into an official LEGO product.
Created by Tomasso Builds, this creation contains 2,215 pieces in total and “closely follows the original elements”, but with a toy-like appearance. Tomasso’s project was launched the LEGO Ideas platform on 30 July and currently has 98 supporters. If it reaches 10,000, LEGO will review it for product consideration.

The build features several playable features that mimic the original. These include a built-in motor to drive the turntable, start and stop buttons, a platter shaped in the scale of a 7” vinyl record, a working tonearm with adjustable balance weight and anti-skating knob, an adjustable pitch slider, and a removable 45 rpm adaptor.
“The legendary turntable that revolutionised the world of radio and dance club disc jockeys. Originally launched in 1972 as the SL-1200, the subsequent model, the SL-1200 MK2, was released in 1979 and quickly became the standard turntable for DJing and scratching,” writes Tomasso on his LEGO Ideas page.
“This is arguably the most iconic and recognizable turntable ever made. It would be a cool addition to any DJ’s, music lover’s, or technology enthusiast’s display collection. It is a historical piece that has shaped the world we live in.”

This isn’t the first music gear build from Tomasso. The designer, whose real name is Tamás Borján, formerly created a LEGO version of the Pioneer CDJ 2000 Nexus Multi Player.
And just in case you were wondering, LEGO does indeed take these ideas seriously. A Fender Stratocaster set became available in 2020 after a fan design was submitted to the Ideas portal.
There are 57 days left to support the product. You can head to LEGO Ideas to find out more.
