Gigi Perez - Sailor Song
Sounds like: Delaney Bailey, Sufjan Stevens, Jaguar Sun
What's so good?
I'm noticing a new development in the unfolding of what we can call 'my aging.' More and more, I observe an out-of-touch feeling with the world of entertainment—songs, shows, and the like. The creators are all at a level of youth that now feels slightly far removed from my interests or relatability.Sometimes, though, an artist comes along with a spark that can burn those borders to the ground. Talent, in its truest form, transcends concepts (like age) and places the listener in a field of awe and moves one to feel something.Gigi Perez's vocals are exquisitely unique, unrepeated by peers, yet likened to my personal adoration for Mike Milosh's vocals—they do not sound the same, but my journey into them was equally met with excitement. On top of that, the already intriguing lyrics are twirled into melody in a way that brought a smile to my face this fine morning. The books were splayed across my couch, the coffee was steaming, and the winter sky beyond my window moved with the clouds. "Sailor Song" struck my heart to life, making me hopeful for the artistry to come as the years march ever on.
