Fcukers - Mothers
Sounds like: The Juan Maclean, LCD Soundsystem
What's so good?
So comes to a close my first SXSW conference. A rollicking affair that lifted both my cholesterol and alcohol tolerance. To kick off this post I'd like to give a big, lovely shout out to the team over at SubmitHub for executing our first ever showcase. Impressively doing so while living entirely overseas. It was like delivering a baby in the dark and boy was it entertaining. We arrived on Monday and as the week rumbled on Austin grew increasingly more raucous. By the time Saturday rolled around the scenes up and down the historic 6th St. resembled a Dutch market, yet, instead of fresh produce, the vendors were hawking live performances, filming music videos, and handing out merch. To find refuge from it all I had my sights set on seeing an act whose single was suggested to me by one of SXSW's staffers. She had suggested Fcukers for our showcase after one of the acts we had booked pulled out at the last minute. Ultimately, the New York-based trio weren't able to play our gig, but I am kinda glad that my Fcuking cherry was popped on Saturday instead. Fcukers are a Saturday night kind of act. They're The Juan Maclean / LCD Soundsystem we've been missing in the indie music scene and I'm not surprised that they've recently released a song with James Murphy.Anyways, Jason and I unanimously felt they were our best act of the week. I even managed to sneak back stage and gift their singer an orange as a sign of my appreciation. Vitamin C is essential for growth and I have no doubt this trio are going to be too expensive for us to book next year.
