Dithering in #musicproduction was quite an interesting topic. Every dithering algorithm has it's own color (or sound character), it pretty much depends on the material - sometimes truncated conversion sounds better if there is a lot of "muddiness" or "wooliness" in the particular mix, better to pick up by ears imho. Also 32 to 24, 24 to 16, 32 to 16 are quite different conversions, TPDF is the most neutral dithering though (triangular "white noise" kind of)
