Haarlem Vinyl Festival returns for a second edition from 27-29 September 2024Haarlem Vinyl Festival has announced dates for its second edition, which will take place from 27-29 September 2024.
READ MORE: Black Friday deals 2023: Best early deals for music producers, DJs, beatmakers and musicians
The festival made its debut earlier this year to great success, attracting an estimated 15,000 visitors across 30 locations over three days. Next year’s event is said to be “bigger and bolder”, with more DJs, artists, talks, concerts, workshops for vinyl enthusiasts from around the world.
2024’s program also celebrates 70 years since the first gold record was awarded worldwide, in Haarlem. Aside from celebrating history, the festival also teases some of the latest innovations in the audio and vinyl industry. The first program components will be announced soon, according to organisers.
Meanwhile, you can look forward to a record fair that’s set to take place again at the Nieuwe Groenmarkt on the festival’s weekend (28-29 September). The fair, organised in collaboration with Europe’s leading host Record Planet, is free of charge.
Besides celebrating vinyl culture, the festival also serves as an international stage for Dutch talent, and a place where established and local artists can meet and bond through their love for vinyl.
Director Richard Zijlma said in a statement: “The first edition attracted a wide audience from all over the world, from young collectors to more than 350 representatives from the international music industry. In combination with the involvement of partners, the city of Haarlem, and the enthusiastic responses from visitors, this gives confidence to continue building the festival.”
Weekend Passes (all-access day and night) and Vinyl Culture tickets (access to the day program) are now on sale at an Early Bird rate.

YouTube rolls out AI tool that clones artist’s voices (with their consent)YouTube has rolled out a new AI tool allowing creators to clone the voices of famous pop stars – with their consent.
READ MORE: Black Friday deals 2023: Best early deals for music producers, DJs, beatmakers and musicians
Affectionately named ‘Dream Track’, the experimental feature allows users to create short, 30-second tracks in the style of artists who have agreed to ‘lend their voices’, so to speak. The nine artists who are working with YouTube on the feature include Alec Benjamin, Charlie Puth, Charli XCX, Demi Lovato, John Legend, Papoose, Sia, T-Pain, and Troye Sivan.
“By simply typing an idea into the creation prompt and selecting a participating artist that appears in the carousel, an original Shorts soundtrack featuring the AI-generated voice of that artist will be produced for the creator to use in their Short.”
As the company explains, the tool’s use is limited to YouTube Shorts, which means you won’t be finding full-length AI-generated John Legend songs on the web anytime soon. YouTube also says that the feature is currently being tested with a “small group of select US creators”.
Speaking about the project, Puth says: “I’m extremely excited and inspired… YouTube has been a great partner in outlining their approach to AI and understands the need to work together to develop this technology responsibly, ensuring it will accelerate creativity instead of replacing it.”The release comes on the heels of YouTube’s recent crackdown on AI clones of musicians, giving music labels the ability to take down content.
According to a blog post published by YouTube, the move requires creators to begin labelling AI-generated content that they believe to be “realistic” when uploading videos.
“In determining whether to grant a removal request, we’ll consider factors such as whether content is the subject of news reporting, analysis or critique of the synthetic vocals,” said YouTube Product Management vice presidents Jennifer Flannery O’Connor and Emily Moxley.
“These removal requests will be available to labels or distributors who represent artists participating in YouTube’s early AI music experiments.”The post YouTube rolls out AI tool that clones artist’s voices (with their consent) appeared first on MusicTech.

Synth East festival returns in 2024 — here are the acts involvedSynth East, the festival of all things synth and modular in Norwich, is set to return in 2024 following a successful sold-out event this year.
READ MORE: Black Friday deals 2023: Best early deals for music producers, DJs, beatmakers and musicians
Taking place on the weekend of 23-25 February, Synth East 2024 is brought to you by the Norwich Arts Centre, Electronic Sound Magazine and Molten Modular.
The all new Friday evening Synth East event is curated by Electronic Sound Magazine and kicks off with the UK premiere of a documentary on electronic musician Morton Subotnick, known affectionately as the Father of Techno. The film, titled Subotnick, Portrait of an Electronic Music Pioneer, is brought to us by Waveshaper Media, the team behind the 2014 documentary, I Dream of Wires.
After the film, we have writer and musician Adam Buxton in conversation with Synth East alumni Steve Davis, and the evening wraps up with an ambient set from modular musician Luke Sanger.
The show begins proper on Saturday with dozens of manufacturers filling the Arts Centre with synths and modulars; Attendees will be able to chat with gear makers and enjoy personal demonstrations of the latest tech in the auditorium. We’ll also be having epic performances from local artists like Hardwired and Tristan Burfield all throughout the day.
Saturday night also sees 80s synth legends Blancmange taking the stage, supported by electronic music duo Ultramarine, and Robin “Molten Modular” Vincent in the warm up slot.
On Sunday, you can attend Eurorack DIY workshops presented by Befaco and Thonk. They will be held at Electronic Sound HQ at Capital House over a few hours. The idea is that you buy a ticket for the workshop and then order the kit that you hope to build directly with Befaco or Thonk.
Tickets are available for each Synth East event separately, though there’s a discount if you purchase the Saturday Expo and evening gig together.More information is available at SynthEast.
