#newmusic #Release #Music #indepedent #artist #experimental #hiphop Artificial Intelligence Runs on ArduinoFundamentally, an artificial intelligence (AI) is nothing more than a system that takes a series of inputs, makes some prediction, and then outputs that information. Of course, the types of AI in the news right now can handle a huge number of inputs and need server farms’ worth of compute to generate outputs of various forms, but at a basic level, there’s no reason a purpose-built AI can’t run on much less powerful hardware. As a demonstration, and to win a bet with a friend, [mondal3011] got an artificial intelligence up and running on an Arduino.
This AI isn’t going to do anything as complex as generate images or write clunky preambles to every recipe on the Internet, but it is still a functional and useful piece of software. This one specifically handles the brightness of a single lamp, taking user input on acceptable brightness ranges in the room and outputting what it thinks the brightness of the lamp should be to match the user’s preferences. [mondal3011] also builds a set of training data for the AI to learn from, taking the lamp to various places around the house and letting it figure out where to set the brightness on its own. The training data is run through a linear regression model in Python which generates the function that the Arduino needs to automatically operate the lamp.
Although this isn’t the most complex model, it does go a long way to demonstrating the basic principles of using artificial intelligence to build a useful and working model, and then taking that model into the real world. Note also that the model is generated on a more powerful computer before being ported over to the microcontroller platform. But that’s all par for the course in AI and machine learning. If you’re looking to take a step up from here, we’d recommend this robot that uses neural networks to learn how to walk.Artificial Intelligence Runs on Arduino

Alex Van Halen has reached out to OpenAI in the hopes of creating new Eddie Van Halen guitar riffs and solosGenerative AI is rapidly becoming more sophisticated, and can already create incredibly believable sonic recreations of existing music artists. Just look at There I Ruined It – a YouTube channel and Instagram page which posts ridiculous AI-generated versions of classic songs – to see what it’s already capable of.
And some are looking to AI to create totally new music in the style of deceased artists as a means to keep their legacies alive, but not everyone is convinced of the ethics of this practice.READ MORE: Matty Healy: “If you took a piece of ’90s Aphex Twin back 30 years, they would go, ‘This isn’t even music.’ If you took a piece of music now back 30 years, they’d be struck by how not different it is”
For example, few guitarists hold quite the same iconic status as Eddie Van Halen, and so the demand to hear “new music” from him four years after his death remains strong.
As such, Alex Van Halen has revealed that he’s reached out to ChatGPT creator OpenAI to explore the possibility of generating new riffs and solos in the style of his late sibling.
Speaking to Rolling Stone while promoting his new book Brothers, Alex details the “oceanic grief” he felt after losing Eddie, and his plans for Van Halen’s extensive archive.
Van Halen released 12 studio albums over the course of their near-50-year career, but there are plenty of unreleased and unheard audio bites in the band’s archives, according to AVH. “They’re all little pieces,” he notes. “A bunch of licks don’t make a song.”
He goes on to reveal that he’s reached out to OpenAI about analysing “the patterns of how Edward would have played something”, in the hopes of generating new riffs and solos. Whether such a project will actually happen remains to be seen, but there are several ethical hurdles to vault before it does.
For a start, Eddie Van Halen’s son Wolfgang has repeatedly shared his reservations about releasing music from the band’s archives. “I really don’t appreciate when artists pass and you see their families release everything,” he said last year.
When our sister publication Guitar.com shared Alex Van Halen’s plans to work with OpenAI on new EVH material on Facebook, comments were divided. “Like it or not, this will be commonplace in the near future,” one user wrote. Another was far more critical: “No one wants to hear ‘AI EVH’, Alex!” they wrote. “Just give us the music, as it is. We all understand the circumstances, and we do not want or need AI to step in and finish the job.”

Boox’s phone-size e-reader gets faster processing and a fingerprint readerIn 2023, Boox turned heads with the Palma. The device blurred the line between e-readers and smartphones, by combining e-paper with Android. The initial pitch was something along the lines of a phone-sized Kindle that’s small enough to slip into a pocket. The product would be enticing for many if that were the only thing […]
