Boy George and Squeeze at the YouTube TheaterWhile both Boy George and Squeeze are British, and while they were both having hits in the '80s (the former obviously with Culture Club), the pairing still feels a little odd at the YouTube Theater. Glenn Tilbrook's new wavers, and George's pop-soul cabaret, costume changes and all.
Dig a little deeper though, and "soul" is the connecting factor. Squeeze songs such as "Take Me I'm Yours" and especially "Tainted" have always had soulful songwriting elements that made them stand out back in the day. "Take Me I'm Yours" kicks off proceedings in Inglewood, while "Tempted" shows up near the end.
For an hour, they pulled out one gem after another including "Slap & Tickle" and "Pulling Mussels (From the Shell)." Predictably, the Chris Difford-led cockney anthem "Cool for Cats" was the highlight, but there were many shining moments and Tilbrook still sounds great.
After a short break, it was Boy George's turn to pull out the hits. His set was a blend of solo material, Culture Club classics, and some wild covers. His own stuff sounded great while, as for the covers, the results were mixed.
Solo tunes such as "Mind Your Own Existence" and "Grossly Overrated" are under-heard and so, in fact, underrated. George, ever the provocateur, jabbed at the crowd for not knowing enough of his new stuff.
A couple of the covers sounded great, namely Bronski Beat's "Smalltown Boy" and Wham's "I'm Your Man." But nobody needs to hear Boy George singing Prince's "Purple Rain" and Tubeway Army's "Are 'Friends' Electric."
We get deep cut "Bow Down Mister," originally by Jesus Loves You (George's post-Culture Club electro-Indian-folk project back in the '90s). Naturally though, the Culture Club songs went down best with the crowd. "Do You Really Want to Hurt Me," "It's a Miracle," "Church of the Poison Mind," and obviously "Karma Chameleon."
Through it all, George's trademark banter was top-notch, and his voice sounded smooth. It's delightful to have him around.

Audio-Technica launches AT-ONE Radio podcast from its TECHNICA HOUSE Audio-Technica, a producer of innovative audio experiences for more than 60 years, announces the launch of AT-ONE Radio, an original podcast series for and about creators. Featuring interviews recorded at the AT-ONE Studio, located inside TECHNICA HOUSE – New York in SoHo, along with spots captured at happenings throughout New York City, AT-ONE Radio seeks to bring the energy of NYC musicians, DJs, visual artists, and other creators to a worldwide audience.
The podcast series, like its home studio, takes its name from Audio-Technica’s original product, the AT-1 phono cartridge, which revolutionized the music industry in 1962 by making high-fidelity audio affordable and accessible to everyone. In a similar manner, the AT-ONE Radio podcast aims to open the entertainment world to young creators, offering inspiring stories and helpful tips to encourage their artistic pursuits.“
AT some time, somewhere” is the series’ theme. It nods to the meteoric rise of podcasts in recent years, while also highlighting the show’s nose-to-the-ground immediacy and gaze toward the future. Each 30-minute episode will introduce listeners to a new creator currently lighting up the scene, who will talk about their work and the story behind their success. AT-ONE Radio will release over 60 episodes over the next year and will be available on all major podcast platforms.
“We can’t wait to launch AT-ONE Radio,” says Manabu Aoki, President and CEO of Audio-Technica U.S. “This new venture is a unity project for us. We hope to bring young creators together to celebrate creative culture and learn from and inspire each other. Audio-Technica products have long played a part in the creative process, and this new podcast series will allow us to become involved on a more human level – face to face, voice to voice, heart to heart.”
The recently inaugurated TECHNICA HOUSE was designed to both celebrate the Japanese aesthetic and share Audio-Technica’s passion for analog audio. Much like New York itself, this marketing salon and collaboration space – currently open to invited guests only – packs a lot of energy into a small footprint. Aside from the podcast studio, TECHNICA HOUSE includes a listening lounge that features a variety of Audio-Technica headphones, turntables, and even the company’s high-end NARUKAMI headphone amplifier. Guests are welcome to spin records from a large vinyl library and listen through room speakers or any of the Audio-Technica headphones.
The AT-ONE Studio emphasizes the core of the company’s “Always Analog” philosophy: authentic human connections. Equipped with Audio-Technica’s BP40 broadcast microphones and critically acclaimed ATH-M50x professional monitor headphones, and isolated from the bustling SoHo neighborhood with a wall-to-wall and ceiling-to-floor sound treatment, the studio provides an ideal recording environment for podcasts. The post Audio-Technica launches AT-ONE Radio podcast from its TECHNICA HOUSE first appeared on Music Connection Magazine.Last Day to be eligible for the 2025 Grammy AwardsIt's not too late to drop that track you've been toiling over and still be eligible for a Grammy. Metro Boomin Continues 'Leslie Joanne Single Moms Are Superheroes' Grant ProgramOn Wednesday night, GRAMMY®-nominated, diamond-certified producer and global superstar Metro Boomin took the stage in Denver, Colorado for the 19th stop of his ‘We Trust You’ tour with Future at the Ball Arena. The duo performed hits like “Like That” and “Type Shit” from their #1 Billboard 200 album, “We Don't Trust You”, which went #1 on Apple Music in over 80 countries and was the most streamed album in a single day of 2024. The Denver show of the tour simultaneously marks the 19th stop in Metro Boomin's “Leslie Joanne Single Moms Are Superheroes” Tour Grant-Giving Program, providing $20,000 grants and show tickets to selected non-profits supporting single mothers in each market. At the Denver stop, Metro Boomin awarded a $20,000 grant to the Rose Andom Center. The Rose Andom Center is a survivor-centered, trauma-informed collaborative that cultivates hope for individuals and families impacted by intimate partner abuse.
The distribution of this grant is a continuation of Metro's national tour initiative, which offers financial support and show tickets to nonprofits that work to support single mothers and their families in each tour market. The program officially launched in Kansas City and Saint Paul and has already traveled to Detroit, Atlanta, Toronto, Boston, Philadelphia, New York, Washington D.C., Houston, San Antonio, Dallas and last night to Denver, providing grants to organizations including Essential Families, Jeremiah Foundation, Alternatives for Girls, Atlanta Mission, Solomon’s Temple, YWCA Toronto, EMpath, Women Against Abuse, Grace Institute, Calvary Women’s Services, Shades of Blue Project, SAMMinistries, Viola’s House and Rose Andom Center. The ‘Single Moms Are Superheroes’ initiative launched in 2019 focused on hosting annual give-back events and activations. In December of 2023, Metro partnered with St. Louis-based non-profit organization RUNG for Women and presenting sponsor Amazon Access to launch his grant-giving program within the initiative in honor of his late mother, Leslie Joanne. The post Metro Boomin Continues 'Leslie Joanne Single Moms Are Superheroes' Grant Program first appeared on Music Connection Magazine.
