Cherry Audio emulates ARP’s preset synth with programmable and fully polyphonic Pro SoloistCherry Audio’s latest virtual instrument from its Synth Stack 4 collection is the Pro Soloist – an emulation of the 1972 ARP Pro Soloist, also known as the first commercial preset synthesiser.
This rendition of the classic synth expands upon its existing characteristics by making it fully programmable and adds full polyphony.READ MORE: 5 of Amazon’s best early Black Friday deals on portable speakers, headphones and more
The original Pro Soloist became known for its presence in prog rock, but was also used by artists such as Gary Numan, Kansas, David Bowie, Brian Wilson, Prince, and many others. Tony Banks of Genesis also bought the Pro Soloist as his first ever synth.
The Cherry Audio Pro Soloist “exactingly reproduces” the expressive controls, 30 presets, and other characteristics of the original, whilst also introducing splits and layers, a mod matrix, integrated effects, and more.
A dual-layer voicing architecture, with 16 polyphonic voices per layer now, enables two different presets to be used simultaneously. There’s also a split keyboard mode and an option to simulate polyphonic aftertouch.
Notably, there is now an Edit mode, where all of the inside circuitry used for the Cherry Audio Pro Soloist becomes exposed. In this mode, users can access a five parallel bandpass filter Resonator Bank as well as other controls. An Arp/FX mode offers a syncable arpeggiator and a multitude of studio-quality effects for distortion, phaser, flanger/chorus, echo, and reverb.
“Pro Soloist is the latest in Cherry Audio’s roster of ultimate ‘what if?’ virtual instruments,” says the brand. “Featuring the precision-crafted and circuit-modelled DSP designs of award-winning developer Mark Barton, Cherry Audio’s Pro Soloist goes far beyond emulating the treasured, preset-based monophonic analogue synth originally released by ARP in 1972.”
Take a look at the video below for more:The Cherry Audio Pro Soloist is available now for $49. Find out more at Cherry Audio.

Korg launches the MPS-10 drum pad, a new rival to the Roland SPD-SXKorg has launched a new drum/percussion pad – the MPS-10 – which looks to be a new rival to Roland’s SPD-SX.
The brand has of course already released the quirky WaveDrum, but this new offering seems to put the brand in the ring with other popular drum pad manufacturers such as Roland, Alesis, Nord, and Yamaha.READ MORE: 5 of zZounds’ best early Black Friday deals on headphones, synths, MIDI controllers and more
The new product has the typical setup you’d expect from a percussion pad with a total of 10 pads on board. Six of these are your usual sensitive pads that trigger sounds when hit, plus four small CC pads which allow users to apply filters and carry out drum rolls, tonal transformations in real-time, and more.
It has a preloaded sound source, with a collection of 2,350 assignable instruments overall and more than 3000 samples. There’s also a four-track looper, an external trigger IN jack, footswitch compatibility, and an expression jack.
The MPS-10 additionally hosts a Smooth Sound Transition feature for “uninterrupted creativity,” which maintains flow after a cymbal is struck or a sample is repeated. Check out the demo below for more:“The MPS-10 is the next step in the constant evolution of drum performance and musical expression. Meticulously crafted to be both rugged and refined, MPS-10 meets the diverse demands of drummers and percussionists everywhere, opening the door to new and creative ways of performing never previously possible,” says Korg.
And this isn’t the only product which sees Korg branching out into different territory lately, as it recently launched its first ever MIDI 2.0 keyboard controller, called Keystage.
Described as the “ultimate MIDI keyboard for producers and performers,” Keystage is available with either 49 or 61 keys. It’s equipped with a semi-weighted keybed that supports both channel and polyphonic Aftertouch, and MPE (MIDI Polyphonic Expression).
The Korg MPS-10 is priced at £949.00. Find out more at Korg.

DIY Spotlight: Abigail BarlowA lot has happened to Abigail Barlow during her career already. As one half of Barlow & Bear, she won a Grammy for The Unofficial Bridgerton Musical, in the Best Musical Theater Album category in 2022, despite Netflix filing and later dropping a lawsuit.
She has a new single called “Rock Bottom,” which she has released herself, despite label interest following that Grammy win. She’s had an up-and-down time of it, and the song sees her reflecting on that. To be fair, it’s been quite a journey.
“I’ve been singing and dancing since I was a wee babe, but songwriting became a main focus of mine in my teenage years,” she says.
Barlow describes her solo sound as Katy Perry-meets-Alan Menken.
“I love the bubblegum pop sound of the 2010s, with the theatrical storytelling and timeless melodies of the mastermind behind so many of my favorite Disney musicals,” she says.
As well as the “Rock Bottom” single, Barlow’s Princess Pop album will be released early in 2024.
“‘Rock Bottom’ is the first single off my album Princess Pop: A Musical Fable, dropping in 2024,” she says. “This project has been a way to tell my story. To let my fans in on my POV, experiences I’ve had, and lessons I’ve learned. Each song was written with a different crew of collaborators at different times over the last two years, and tells a piece of my story through the lens of a different fairytale.”
Having made the choice to do this herself, Barlow has no regrets.
“The music industry is not what it once was, and that’s great in some respects and not so great in others,” she says. “As an independent artist, I try to look at the silver lining that being DIY means owning all of my music, having creative power over my project, and integrity in what my brand and messaging is.”
