  • Jacob Collier’s Audience Choir plugin offers access to the multi-instrumentalist’s famous crowd choirs – and it’s completely freeSix-time GRAMMY award winner Jacob Collier has partnered with Native Instruments to craft his very own virtual choir to mark the release of his upcoming album, Djesse Vol. 4.
Jacob Collier’s Audience Choir plugin is a testament to Collier’s love of live vocal choruses. While Collier is known for being somewhat of an multi-instrumental sensation, his boldest experimentation comes in the form of his choral arrangements; from R&B to EDM, Collier finds a way to incorporate an ethereal chorus.

The Kontakt compatible Audience Choir plugin allows users to experiment with their own virtual choir. Thanks to Collier’s ability to transform his audiences into an angelic choir, regularly conducting his crowds mid-show, the plugin has an ample selection of 22 unique show recordings for users to tap into.

Alongside the choral arrangements, a selection of percussion tracks were also captured at Collier’s live shows. Unique stomps, claps and snaps are available for users to experiment with.
The plugin also has a plethora of features to fine-tune your chorus. The Vowel Morph Pad allows users to add motion and blend between vowels, while there are also pre-designed presets and the option to record your own movements to evolve and re-work the choir arrangements.
There are also built-in effects and controls, including delay, reverb and timbre, as well as the option to alter stereo width. A chord generator is also built in to allow instant harmony, or users can blend pre-built triads using the Triad Blend.
Jacob Collier’s Audience Choir plugin is currently available for free from Native Instruments, while Collier’s new record, Djesse Vol. 4, is dropping tomorrow, 1 March.

  • Adobe’s new Project Music GenAI tool is basically Photoshop for musicAdobe has unveiled Project Music GenAI Control, an early-stage generative AI music generation and editing tool that seeks to transform how you create and edit custom audio and music.

While AI music generators have mushroomed in recent years – see Google’s MusicLM and Meta’s open-source AudioCraft – Project Music GenAI’s built-in editing features sets it apart from its peers.
Announced on Wednesday’s Hot Pod Summit in Brooklyn, Adobe’s new “experimental” tool allows creators to generate music using text prompts and have fine-grained control to edit that audio within the same workflow.
Users begin by inputting a text prompt, like “powerful rock”, “happy dance”, or “sad jazz” to generate their desired music. Once the audio is generated, you can customise the results by adjusting the music’s tempo, structure, intensity or by repeating patterns of a specific section. You can also extend the length of a track, remix selected parts, or generate a seamlessly repeatable loop for your content needs.
Besides simplifying your workflow, the new tool also allows you to say goodbye to manually cutting existing music to make intros, outros, and background audio.
“With Project Music GenAI Control, generative AI becomes your co-creator. It helps people craft music for their projects, whether they’re broadcasters, or podcasters, or anyone else who needs audio that’s just the right mood, tone, and length,” says Nicholas Bryan, a senior research scientist at Adobe Research.
“One of the exciting things about these new tools is that they aren’t just about generating audio—they’re taking it to the level of Photoshop by giving creatives the same kind of deep control to shape, tweak, and edit their audio. It’s a kind of pixel-level control for music.”

  • Strum your synth like a guitar with the new Elyra by BLL InstrumentsWhy choose between your guitars/ basses and synths when you can get both in one powerful unit?
Pushing the frontiers of synth-guitar hybridity is Elyra, a new multi-timbral and polyphonic synthesizer by BLL Instruments that’s unlike anything you’ve ever seen.

READ MORE: Diplo: “We downloaded so many different plugins to try and recreate the TB-303 and they were so hard to programme”

To start, Elyra is a synthesizer that can be played like a guitar or bass. It has two strumming zones, a fretboard with 4×12 touch-sensitive pads, two assignable sliders, an OLED screen with a wheel, and eight contextual buttons.
Similar to a guitar, players can select notes on the Elyra’s fretboard and sound the ‘strings’ by strumming the zones. There are two strumming areas for strings, one dedicated to back and forth and another dedicated to bass and arpeggios.
To play the Elyra, all you have to do is hook a strap on, hold it against your body and shred it like you would a guitar. You can also use it placed on a table or on your knees like a conventional synth.
With the Elyra, all “essential subtleties” of guitar playing are retained, says the brand, allowing you to slide between notes, execute pull-offs and hammer-ons, and tune the virtual strings according to your needs.

Under its wooden hood, the battery-powered Elyra features a synth engine designed by Kodamo, creators of the Mask1 synthesizer. It combines virtual analog and FM synthesis, with 16 voices for polyphonic sound. Voicing is freely configurable, which means you can have one instrument with 16 voices or 16 instruments with one voice and everything in between.
Two LFOs are available along with two resonant filter options: a 2-pole -12dB/oct low-pass and a 4-pole -24dB/Oct high-pass filter. Additionally, the master section offers three slots for effects, including distortion, overdrive, bitcrusher, chorus, delay, and reverb. For those who prefer a more conventional interface, there’s also a 256-step sequencer onboard for programming patterns that can be stored via SD card.
The Elyra is now available for $1099/ €1199. Check out the synth in action below.
