“A first of its kind”: An “immersive” Daft Punk experience is coming to FortniteAfter some speculation earlier this year, we can confirm that the worlds of Daft Punk and Fortnite are about to collide, with a new “immersive” in-game experience landing 27 September.
Described as a “first-of-its-kind” event within Fortnite, the experience will see players “taken on a cosmic voyage” from Fortnite’s core Battle Royale to a new Daft Punk-inspired world, complete with numerous rooms and different ways to experience the French duo’s groundbreaking music.READ MORE: Helsing responds to “misinformation” surrounding its activities after Massive Attack becomes latest band to pull music from Spotify
Such experiences include the ability to remix and create mashups of Daft Punk’s music at Dream Chamber Studios, “blast hordes of robots” with a soundwave laser in the Robot Rock Arena, make a LEGO music video at Around the World, or simply hit the Daft Club to dance ‘til you drop.
There’ll even be in-game furniture designed by Daft Punk collaborators Hervet Manufacturier throughout the experience.
While the experience doesn’t officially launch until 27 September at 2PM ET, a new Daft Punk bundle will be available from the Fortnite Shop starting 25 September at 8PM ET. Accessories include the signature GM08 and TB3 helmets, outfits and accessories – in both Fortnite and LEGO styles – as well as instruments and a Jam Track for the duo’s mega-hit Get Lucky (with Pharrell Williams and Nile Rodgers). This collaboration is the latest in a line of partnerships between Fortnite and high-profile musical artists, ranging from Travis Scott, Ariana Grande and Billie Eilish to Metallica, Eminem and Snoop Dogg.
Elsewhere, Huntington Beach metal juggernauts Avenged Sevenfold last year celebrated their 25th anniversary with a spooky virtual museum experience inside Fortnite.
And last year they took a leaf out of the way players earn rewards in-game, launching their own Fortnite-style rewards programme for dedicated fans of the band, Deathbat Rewards.
We were lucky enough to catch up with frontman M. Shadows shortly following the launch, when he explained to us the band’s motivations for instating their own game-style rewards programme.
“We’re taking power away from corporate networks, and saying, ‘No, we’re gonna reward our fans, not you,’” he explained.

Self-enTitiled: That Song from That Band on That AlbumThe clearest way for a band to kick down the door, stride into the room and announce "Here we are, motherscratchers! Take Note!"? is by naming not only an album, but also a song after their own band name. The hubris! The gall! The self-importance! The trinity! The triumvirate! The trifecta! Let's celebrate those songs by that band off of that album (all with the same name).

Building Your Own DVB-S2 ReceiverGenerally, a digital TV tuner is something you buy rather than something you make yourself. However, [Johann] has always been quite passionate about the various DVB transmission standards, and decided he wanted to build his own receiver just for the fun of it.
[Johann]’s build is designed to tune in DVB-S2 signals transmitted from satellites, and deliver that video content over a USB connection. When beginning his build, he noted it was difficult to find DVB reception modules for sale as off-the-shelf commercial parts. With little to nothing publicly available, he instead purchased a “Formuler F1 Plug & Play DVB-S2 HDTV Sat Tuner” and gutted it for the Cosy TS2M08-HFF11 network interface module (NIM) inside. He then paired this with a Cypress CY7C68013A USB bridge to get the data out to a PC. [Johann] then whipped up a Linux kernel driver to work with the device.
[Johann] doesn’t have hardcore data on how his receiver performs, but he reports that it “works for me.” He uses it in South Germany to tune in the Astra 19.2E signal.
We don’t talk a lot about DVB these days, since so much video content now comes to us over the Internet. However, we have still featured some nifty DVB hacks in the past. If you’re out there tinkering with your own terrestrial or satellite TV hardware, don’t hesitate to notify the tipsline!Building Your Own DVB-S2 Receiver

Four super-rare early Minimoog prototypes to go on display at the Moogseum in NovemberThe Bob Moog Foundation has announced it will be showcasing four Minimoog Prototypes at Asheville, NC’s Moogseum, in partnership with the Museum of Music Technology (MMT), in an exhibit which will run between 14 and 16 November.
As part of the cost of entry ($16), visitors will be able to ask MMT staff questions about the iconic analogue synth’s prototypes – Models A, B, C and D – which will be out on display.READ MORE: Helsing responds to “misinformation” surrounding its activities after Massive Attack becomes latest band to pull music from Spotify
According to Michelle Moog-Koussa, Executive Director of the Bob Moog Foundation: “This will mark the first time that all four prototypes are exhibited together at a museum outside of the Museum of Music Technology.
“The exhibit will trace the rich history of this seminal instrument that helped bring synthesis to the gigging musician, and through them to a world of music enthusiasts.”
First released in 1970, the Minimoog has an illustrious past, with some of its earliest adopters including Yes’s Rick Wakeman, Herbie Hancock, Stevie Wonder, Rush’s Geddy Lee, Paul and Linda McCartney, Gary Numan, Kraftwerk, and many others.
The Minimoog first began in 1969, though, with the Minimoog A prototype serving as engineer Bill Hemsath’s demo model for the larger Moog modular synths.

Slightly more compact than the Model A, Model B later came with three identical oscillator sections; noise, filter, and master tuning sections; amplitude and filter contour controls, as well as a front-mounted power switch.

Model C was the first prototype to replace existing circuits from the modulars with new simplified circuit designs. Its panel design saw heavy involvement from Bob Moog, who added rocker switches, and fitted the cabinet with its portability-enhancing fold-down panel.

With mass production in mind, the final Model D came with all new circuit designs, a wood trim and left-hand controller sliders that Bob Moog envisaged would allow for more “human nuance”.

“We are honoured to help preserve and share Bob Moog’s legacy by bringing the Minimoog prototypes into public view,” says Vince Pupillo, Sr, Founder and President of EMEAPP (Electronic Music Education and Preservation Project).
“We value the important work of the Bob Moog Foundation and are grateful for the chance to share these wonderful artifacts with the Moogseum’s guests.”
