TSHA’s live band brings the sunshine to Field Day 20232023’s edition of Victoria Park’s Field Day festival, is full to the brim with cutting-edge names in electronic music, including Aphex Twin, Elkka, Chloé Robinson, Mount Kimbie, and Bonobo. There’s one ultra-talented act that perhaps has more pressure on her shoulders than most: TSHA playing live.
READ MORE: The Aphex Twin machine causes chaos at Field Day 2023
With her four-piece band hitting the stage for just the fifth time ever at 4.30 pm, crowds wander past SBTRKT at the North Arena, gathering at The West Stage. It’s all in anticipation of the intriguing creator of Capricorn Sun, the debut album that awarded the London-based producer MusicTech’s Producer Of The Year award in 2022.
The band – Joe Clegg on drums, Simon Francis on synth and keys, and the incredible Clementine Douglas on vocals – stand ready around the Diplo collaborator. She spritely greets the crowd in a jet-blue sleeveless cardigan and swings her massive bass guitar around her neck.
Against a backdrop of a darker, more experimental lineup featuring acts such as Aphex Twin, Arca, and Fever Ray, TSHA’s set is a ray of sunshine that breaks through at Field Day 2023. The sun’s appearance perfectly complements her uplifting performance, which includes warm electronic sounds laced with breaks, delightful vocals and sharp synth riffs. Her dramatic track, Giving Up, for example, cuts through the noise of the crowd even in this outdoor setting. The blend of high-end synth sounds and a serious, bulging bassline catches everyone’s attention.View this post on Instagram

Behind TSHA, visuals spark to life – visuals that embody her compelling character fans have come to adore. They show Felicity Marshall’s animated flowers and figures from the artwork for TSHA’s 2021 singles, OnlyL and the astonishing Power.
These visuals change into a series of floating star constellations. Then, the massive LED screen suddenly turns green. “The visuals aren’t working!” TSHA tells the crowd in a slight panic. No one is too fussed, however, as the soothing blend of synths and organic instruments is received well by the colourful crowd. “So many cool shirts in the audience right now!” shouts Clementine Douglas. We see one t-shirt that simply reads ‘every girl should be a DJ’.
Amidst the festival’s great visuals and sunny vibes, TSHA’s live band arrangement stands out as a significant moment for her. The dynamics of the setup add an intriguing layer to her music. She plays the 303 acid bassline-infused Sister, which she tells the crowd is dedicated to her new half-sister whom she met for the first time recently. Another huge moment of TSHA’s debut album, the breaks-y Kissing In The Shadows, is, as Douglas says, “her favourite TSHA song to sing”.
At the end of the set, the energetic, synth-flecked leftfield house track, OnlyL, gets people bouncing. A wave of pink confetti streamers erupt into the audience and seem to hang in the air, before slowly floating down and coating the audience. It’s a lovely moment, as everyone, mummified, attempts to de-tangle themselves from the long strips of pink paper. TSHA and her band thank the buzzed crowd and head off stage.
Confetti at Field Day
Later, we see TSHA chatting to Bonobo, eating a bag of crisps – job done. Although this was a successful festival live show, you wouldn’t blame TSHA for being nervous. She was, however, incredibly relaxed throughout, probably thanks to the receptive crowd.
Quietly taking in the moment, she watches Jon Hopkins’ fantastic performance from the crowd. We’re sure, however, that her mind is elsewhere – thinking of the next time she can get on stage and do it all over again. Well, we’ll be there, front and centre for this future star.

Producer reveals how he made over $1,000,000 selling beats on YouTubeRap producer and YouTuber KXVI has posted a video explaining how he made over $1,000,000 selling beats and collaborating with type beat producers.
READ MORE: Nearly 120 historic hip-hop artefacts – including a ring designed by Tupac – go on sale in Sotheby’s auction
Speaking in a video entitled How I Made $1,062,634 Selling Beats Online, the producer explains his journey to success, highlighting that it was through selling beats on digital production marketplace BeatStars, that helped, as well as reaching out to popular producers on YouTube.
The producer – who now collaborates with the likes of Lil Tjay and in 2022 helped produce DJ Khaled, Future and SZA’s BEAUTIFUL – mentions that reaching out to ‘type beat’ producers on the platform played a role in the success story. If you don’t know, ‘type beat’ producers are those – typically in hip-hop – who make beats emulating the style of a specific artist or producer.
KXVI explains how he started to make success selling beats online, especially off one instrumental, Elevate which made him $1,000 – $2,000 a month. Then, a few years later, he met fellow producer Dilly Got It Bumpin’, who showed him how he’d made $30,000 from selling beats on BeatStars in a matter of days, inspiring him to reach the same level of success. He goes on to say how by sending loops every day to hugely popular type beat producers, resulting in collaborations, he began getting a 50% cut on the beats they sold together via BeatStars. He also started making his own sample packs, later bringing in session musicians for a pack called Elements of Soul, thus improving the quality of the packs, which paid off in terms of popularity and more revenue.
At the end he says, “If I’ve learnt anything form my journey, it’s just that you’ve just got to keep going… everyone I used to make music with when I was 14, everyone who’s kept going for the seven years that I’ve been doing this, they’ve had major placements or made money online from their music. If you keep going, you’re going to find some success from your music.”

Arturia’s new Acid V 303 emulation is a “corrosive bassline machine”303 fans – it’s time to add another acid emulation to your arsenal. Arturia has launched its new Roland TB-303 digital emulation plugin, the Acid V.
READ MORE: Behringer’s modded 303 clone gets black and red makeover in TD-3-MO-BK
Promising to push the boundaries of the 1981 acid bassline far further than is possible with the original, Acid V, according to Arturia, takes the 303 sound into “experimental territory”.
Acid V, the French brand says, revolves around the concept of movement, allowing users to quickly create polymetric sequences and scale-based patterns with a wealth of experimental sonic avenues to go down.
Arturia has said in a press release that Acid V will include a host of exciting new effects, set to help you take the 303 sound to new heights.
Arturia Acid V. Image: Arturia
It has a user-friendly interface mirroring the classic 303, offering easy navigation and immediate recognition for those familiar with the original.
Alongside classic features such as sawtooth or square waveform selection and options to add slides and accents to notes or change scales, the Acid V has enhanced controls, including a versatile sub-oscillator. You can also adjust the playback direction, and create transmutation for random sequences, with adaptable polyrhythmic options and go into an arpeggiator mode with MIDI playability.
There’s also a distortion section with vibrato and a cool effects section drawing from Arturia’s extensive effects library, accessible via a hidden panel. This section includes a multiband compressor.
We reviewed Arturia’s Acid V, giving it a strong nine out of ten. We said, “It’s squelchy and meaty and will certainly satisfy your acid cravings. It may not be as tweaky as D16 Group’s Phoscyon 2, with its unusual mod parameters, but Acid V more than makes up for this with imminently useful extras. The effects and modulation really extend the possibilities as well. All in all, a total winner and another triumph for Arturia.”

YouTube partners with Universal Music Group to develop AI tools that offer “safe, responsible and profitable” opportunities to music rights holdersThe rise of artificial intelligence and its implications on copyright in the music industry have been a growing cause for concern for many musicians and producers.
Essentially, AI music creation models have to use existing material as a basis for creating new compositions, but many are anxious that those who inspire such models won’t be fairly compensated for their work.READ MORE: Google and Universal Music in talks over AI “deepfake” royalties
To address this, YouTube has partnered with Universal Music Group to develop AI tools that offer “safe, responsible and profitable” opportunities to music rights holders.
First in the coalition’s list of priorities is the development of a Music AI Incubator at YouTube, a program in which new tools and innovations will be developed at the company in close conjunction with artists and other music industry players.
Thus far, such artists include Brazilian star Anitta, ABBA’s Björn Ulvaeus, producer Louis Bell, d4vd, the Frank Sinatra estate, neo-classical composer Max Richter, as well as Don Was, Ryan Tedder, Rodney Jerkins, Rosanne Cash and Juanes.
“This talented group [of artists and producers] will help gather insights on generative AI experiments and research that are being developed at YouTube,” says YouTube CEO, Neal Mohan.
“We’re also excited to welcome our partners across the industry into the program as we move forward.
“Working together, we will better understand how these technologies can be most valuable for artists and fans, how they can enhance creativity, and where we can seek to solve critical issues for the future.”
As he explains in a new blog post, beyond YouTube’s new AI ‘Incubator’ project, it is committing to three principles that will guide its development of music-based generative AI tools in the future.
They are, in his own words:“AI is here, and we will embrace it responsibly together with our music partners. As generative AI unlocks ambitious new forms of creativity, YouTube and our partners across the music industry agree to build on our long collaborative history and responsibly embrace this rapidly advancing field. Our goal is to partner with the music industry to empower creativity in a way that enhances our joint pursuit of responsible innovation.
AI is ushering in a new age of creative expression, but it must include appropriate protections and unlock opportunities for music partners who decide to participate. We’re continuing our strong track record of protecting the creative work of artists on YouTube. We’ve made massive investments over the years in the systems that help balance the interests of copyright holders with those of the creative community on YouTube.
We’ve built an industry-leading trust and safety organization and content policies. We will scale those to meet the challenges of AI. We spent years investing in the policies and trust and safety teams that help protect the YouTube community, and we’re also applying these safeguards to AI-generated content. Generative AI systems may amplify current challenges like trademark and copyright abuse, misinformation, spam, and more. But AI can also be used to identify this sort of content, and we’ll continue to invest in the AI-powered technology that helps us protect our community of viewers, creators, artists and songwriters – from Content ID, to policies and detection and enforcement systems that keep our platform safe behind the scenes. And we commit to scaling this work even further.”Following the new partnership, Universal Music Group Chairman and CEO Sir Lucian Grainge offers his thoughts.
“I recognise AI’s potential for misappropriation and misinformation,” he says. “Today’s rapid technological advancements have enabled digital manipulation, appropriation and misattribution of an artist’s name, image, likeness, voice and style – the very characteristics that differentiate them as performers with unique vision and expression.
“Given this tension, our challenge and opportunity as an industry is to establish effective tools, incentives and rewards – as well as rules of the road – that enable us to limit AI’s potential downside while promoting its promising upside. If we strike the right balance, I believe AI will amplify human imagination and enrich musical creativity in extraordinary new ways.
“Our enduring faith in human creativity is the bedrock of Universal Music Group’s collaboration with YouTube on the future of AI.”

The 6 best USB sticks for DJs in 2023For many DJs, the days of lugging your records to the club are long gone. No more rummaging through records, leaving sleeves all over the floor. No more taking up space in the house with your wax. Even CDs can be a burden. By simply being able to put all of your music onto a USB stick, you can save tanks of time and effort preparing for a set. Plus, analysing your MP3, WAV or AIFF files through Rekordbox gives you access to information like tempo and key. Tools like folders and sort options make for a stress-free organised set, too.

For digital DJs, a USB stick is a no brainer. But what constitutes a good one? Write and read speeds are important, and could be the difference between waiting an hour to export your tunes or just ten. If you’ve got loads of music, storage is key, too – it’s often worth paying that bit extra for more and having your whole collection in one place. Lastly, a sturdy design prevents bent or snapped USB sticks once the drinks tab is in full flow.
We’ve listed some of the most reliable USB sticks on the market right now. Have a gander below.
