The Russia-linked ransomware gang has been exploiting the security flaw in MOVEit Transfer, a tool used by corporations and enterprises to share large files over the internet, since late May.
Check skin conditions with Google Lens: Google’s enhancing Google Lens, its computer vision-powered app that brings up information related to the objects it identifies, with a useful new feature. Minimum wage for NYC delivery workers: New York City has established a new minimum wage for food delivery workers who deliver for platforms like Uber Eats, DoorDash, Grubhub and Relay. It should be a historic win for gig workers, but Rebecca writes about how both delivery workers and companies are unhappy with it.
YouTube lets more users monetize: YouTube is lowering the requirements for creators to get access to monetization tools under the YouTube Partner Program (YPP). Specifically, the company is expanding its shopping affiliate program to U.S.-based creators who are already a part of YPP and have more than 20,000 subscribers.

Bebop Rhythmic Words 1&2: Unleashing Jazz Improvisation through Rhythm. Jazz Piano TutorialIntroduction: In the world of jazz improvisation, we often emphasize the importance of choosing the right notes over chord changes. However, today we’re going to shift our focus to another crucial aspect of improvisation: rhythm. In this video, we’ll explore the concept of using rhythmic words to guide our bebop improvisation. By incorporating these rhythmic phrases into our playing, we can enhance our sense of timing and develop a stronger connection between our left and right hand movements. So, let’s dive into this exciting exercise and discover how it can transform your improvisational skills.

Setting the Foundation: To begin, we’ll work with two related rhythmic words and apply them to a walking bass-line using half notes. This approach allows us to establish a solid foundation by feeling the downbeat in our left hand while understanding the rhythmic placement in our right hand. It’s crucial to have a clear picture of where we start and end in order to create a cohesive musical statement.

Word 1: The first word starts on beat 2 and ends on the “and-of-4.” Then, it begins again on beat 2 and concludes on the “and-of-3.” By focusing on the note played on the “and-of-4,” we can think ahead to the next chord in the progression and choose a note that complements it. Additionally, we can enhance the shape of word 1 by incorporating a leap on the final note, either ascending or descending. This melodic contour adds further interest and character to the phrase.

Word 2: Word 2 is a variation of word 1, with the addition of a pickup note at the beginning of each part. This time, we start on the “and-of-1” for both iterations, but we still conclude on the same beats as in word 1. To create a pleasing melodic shape, consider playing a leap on the pickup note, adding an extra touch of musicality to the phrase.

Application to a Jazz Standard: Now it’s time to put these rhythmic words into practice. Choose a jazz standard or a specific section and begin by playing the melody alongside the bass line. Once you’re comfortable, integrate word 1 into your improvisation, repeating it a few times over the progression. Then, transition to word 2 and play it in the same manner. This exercise serves as an excellent starting point for conversing in the bebop language, allowing you to develop a stronger rhythmic foundation.

Key Considerations and Further Practice: As you embark on this rhythmic journey, remember that playing at high speeds is not the goal. Instead, focus on accurately placing your phrases on the right beats and maintaining a steady and consistent bass rhythm with your left hand. Bullfrog invites you to unlock musicality while combining the thrill of electronic music production with a comprehensive learning experience.

Bullfrog is a classical subtractive synthesiser – it consists of several “modules” for sound generation – VCO, NOISE GENERATOR - and treatment – VCF, VCA/DELAY, as well as “modules” that generate control and modulation signals to control them – ENVELOPE GENERATORS and SAMPLE & HOLD. The Bullfrog will not make the sound on its own unless it is patched – using eurorack patch cables to interconnect the “modules” or by inserting voice cards that create internal connections between the “modules” in a specific way and add extra functionality, like sampler/looper, sequencer, groovebox, etc. This approach better helps to understand functionality of a subtractive synthesizer and the principles of sound design with instruments like these.
