Waves unveils the Scheps Omni Channel 2 plugin for just $29.99Audio software developer Waves has released the Scheps Omni Channel 2 plugin, an expanded version of the original Scheps Omni Channel strip designed with Grammy-winning mixer Andrew Scheps.

“The original Omni plugin was my dream for a plugin,” Schep says. “Everything I like to use in every mix – all my favourite compression, EQ and saturation flavours – in one window.”
The latest version of the plugin builds on the original, with the addition of several exciting new features for you to really get creative. They include: CRUSH mode, a fourth preamp saturation for aggressive distortion; a new 24dB-per-octave filter with resonance (RES) control; and SOFT, a new soft-knee compressor, in addition to the Omni’s VCA, FET, and OPT.
Furthermore, users can now host absolutely any VST3 plugin, by any manufacturer, in the Omni’s insert point, in order to add any effect to the Omni signal flow. The Omni Channel 2 also comes with new “Focus” presets designed by Andrew, which helps you focus on the controls you want to tweak to achieve the mix of your dreams.
“With these new additions, the Omni Channel 2 moves further into the realm of creative sound design. It’s a channel strip that gives you everything you need – all the classic functionality plus a new suite of tools for some seriously creative effects,” Scheps says.

New venue from Printworks organisers, Drumsheds, opening in LondonThe Printworks organisers are opening a new venue in London this autumn.
Drumsheds is located in Meridian Water, four minutes from Tottenham Hale underground station. It’s going to be in what used to be an IKEA warehouse.

Broadwick Live is behind the new plans to turn the disused 608,000 sq ft building into a venue that will hold up to 15,000 people. This makes it one of the largest indoor venues in London. It’s set to host “a carefully curated programme of music, arts, culture and community”.
Broadwick Live’s director of strategy Simeon Aldred says, “We want Drumsheds, like all the spaces we create, to be new centres of cultural gravity that provide the basis for human connection. A connection that people crave now more than ever”.
Like Printworks, it’s leaving industrial elements of the building in place. These include “old lift shafts, loading bays, sprawling floors and machinery as they transition through the impressive space”.
It follows the old Drumsheds, which closed last January after a farewell event hosted by The Hydra. It featured b2b sets from Ben UFO and Joy Orbison and Four Tet and Floating Points.
Printworks is closed as the area is being redeveloped, but Broadwick plans to reopen the venue in 2026. The final show until then took place on 1 May with the likes of Bicep, Peggy Gou, Róisín Murphy and Sherelle.
It also opened two venues in the London district of Silvertown last year. Silverworks Island is an open-air 20,000-capacity venue first known as Dockyards, and The Beams, a venue that recently played host to the visual art exhibition Thin Air.
Broadwick also redeveloped the Deport Mayfield space in Manchester. The venue hosts a range of events, including The Warehouse Project.

Roland launches AI-powered royalty-free sound library for Bridge Cast livestreamersRoland has unveiled BGM Cast, a service for finding background music and sound effects for live streams. It’s been created to be used with its Bridge Cast dual bus gaming mixer for premium live stream audio.

BGM Cast is a new addition to Bridge Cast’s software companion app, made for Roland’s livestream gamer-focused four-channel mixer/audio interface unit which launched in January. It’s a curated music service offering a vast array of royalty-free music and sound effects that can be easily added to videos when making regular content on the fly.

The royalty-free sounds on offer are categorised into moods – Happy, Cool, Exciting, Dark, Epic, Relax – and can be filtered further by genres, such as electronic, pop, hip-hop and so on. Users can then highlight their favourite sounds or effects they’d like to come back to at a later date.
The soundtracks in the BGM Cast service have been created using a human-in-the-loop AI process, which generates sounds fitting into these moods. The AI-generated music has not solely produced by an AI algorithm but is enhanced or refined by human musicians and producers to achieve better results.
The companion app, alongside BGM Cast, features a main mixer tab reflecting the routed audio into the Bridge Cast mixer, along with mic setup, cleanup, and effects tabs, as well as a ‘Game’ section for adjusting game EQ levels. Users can also change volume levels in a group chat when streaming to platforms like Twitch.
This new ability to quickly access royalty-free music within the companion app is no doubt set to be a hit among livestreamers.
Roland Account holders have access to 36 background music tracks and 16 sound effects, but if you’re a Roland Cloud Core member, which is $3 per month, you can receive access to thousands of additional music tracks and hundreds of sound effects. More sounds are set to be added on a monthly basis.

Ghetto house icon DJ Deeon has diedGhetto house icon DJ Deeon, real name Deeon Boyd, has died.
The producer, DJ and label owner sadly “gained his wings”, earlier today (Tuesday 18 July) in hospital in his home city of Chicago. The news was revealed in a post to the artist’s Facebook page.
“Admin Jim here,” the post reads. “I’m sorry to announce the legendary artist, producer, DJ, label owner and my friend Deeon ‘DJ Deeon’ Boyd gained his wings today. The family thanks you for your support and will announce arrangements in the coming days. Thank you for your understanding.”
While the cause of death has not yet been confirmed, Deeon had been publically suffering from the effects of diabetes and pneumonia for some time and in 2002 was diagnosed with Stage Four Lymphoma. A crowdfunding campaign was launched in 2020.
Despite all of this, however, the Chicago legend continued to regularly release new music right up to May 2023. Last Thursday, he took to Instagram to post a photo of himself in hospital.

DJ Deeon helped drive the ghetto house genre, sometimes referred to as juke or booty house. This sassy and outrageously sexy sound takes elements of hip-hop, Southern rap, Chicago house and techno, and blends them, resulting in uncompromising club tracks.
Boyd pushed ghetto house in Chicago alongside the likes of DJ Funk, DJ Milton and DJ Slugo, who together played as DJs On The Low. He went on to release seminal tracks on Dance Mania, Teklife and Numbers such as Freak Like Me, WANNA GO BANG, and House-O-Matic, and also made music under the names Debo, Playground Productionz and Low End Theory.

Parents send Ibiza DJ furious note complaining about noise, internet debate ensuesA DJ in Ibiza has been left fuming after parents sent him a furious note blaming him for waking up their toddler on the island.
Bryan Checo, from Chile, works in nightclubs around Ibiza. Over the weekend, he was surprised to see a note pushed under the door of his room.
The 26-year-old posted the note on Twitter, and asked “Who brings a two-year-old to Ibiza?”

The note reads, “You are the most selfish people, waking up a two-year-old. Nasty, selfish, and absolutely NO manners or respect. Dragged up slags.”
People have viewed the tweet over 5.5 million times, liked it over 40,000 times, and retweeted it over 1,500 times.
It’s triggered plenty of debate, but most people seem firmly on Checo’s side of the argument.
“At least it’s going to have good music taste,” jokes one user. Another quips, “A toddler on party island before me is absurd”.
Some people point out that, contrary to Ibiza’s reputation as a party island, there are more family-friendly areas in which parents might feel more entitled to a quieter holiday.
Someone commented, “To be fair, I have been going to the south side of the island since I was about two. Some parts of it are quiet/family resorts”.
And somebody else said that their “parents took me to Ibiza when I was three and I’m pretty sure they took me to a foam party in my pram”.
Of course, Ibiza’s reputation is understandable. Just a couple of months ago, DJ Mag readers voted Hï Ibiza in the resort of Playa d’en Bossa the world’s number one club. It beat London’s Printworks into second place. And this summer, some of the planet’s biggest DJs are playing on the island. David Guetta, Calvin Harris, and Martin Garrix are all set to appear.

Speaking on a new episode of Kevin Hart’s Hart to Heart show, Dr. Dre recalls Prince and Michael Jackson asking him to work with them, saying his initial thoughts were: ‘What the fuck am I going to do with them?’
“Those are my fucking heroes,” he says, adding that he’d recently turned down an invitation to collaborate with Stevie Wonder.
The producer explains that he likes “the way [he] [feels] about Stevie, Prince, Michael, Bruce Springsteen and all of these amazing artists,” which “could change by working with them.”
“These are my fucking heroes…. I like the idea of what I grew up listening to and I want to keep it like that. And I don’t want to fuck up that idea and that look.”
Elsewhere in the chat, Dre also shares that instead of big name musicians, he much prefers working with artists who are just starting out.
“My entire life and career has been dealing with and working with new artists. That’s what I like,” he says. “Nobody comes in with an agenda. It’s a ball of clay when they walk in the room. You can just form it and do what you want. That’s what I want.”
“Everybody else, especially my heroes, they’re coming in and there’s a set plan as to how the shit should sound, you know. I can’t explore.”
